Overview
- A desktop application for managing the technical visits of machines, built during my internship at Salam Gaz S.A.
- Written in Python with a Tkinter interface
- Automated reminder emails over SMTP ahead of each scheduled visit
- Automatic synchronisation between Microsoft Excel files and Google Sheets
The problem
Technical visits were tracked by hand across spreadsheets. That makes two things fail quietly: a scheduled inspection gets missed because nobody re-read the sheet, and the same data drifts out of sync between the Excel file and the Google Sheet the rest of the team worked from.
What I built
The application
- A Tkinter desktop tool for recording and managing machine technical visits
- Pandas and OpenPyXL behind it for reading, transforming and writing the spreadsheet data
Automated reminders
- A scripted SMTP job that sends reminder emails before each scheduled technical visit
- Configuration kept out of the source with Dotenv
Keeping the data in one state
- Google Apps Script on the Workspace side, synchronising storage between Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets automatically
- Removed the manual re-entry that previously kept the two copies aligned
What I took from it
Nothing here is technically difficult. The value was in noticing which steps a person repeated on a schedule, and deciding those steps should not need a person at all.
